Bid Me Come Unto Thee, by Rose Datoc Dall (prices $43 - $389)
This painting depicts the moment in Matthew 14, just after the disciples beheld the Savior walking on the Sea of Galilee toward their boat. After their initial shock of fright, Peter says,” Lord, if it be thou, bid me come into thee on the water.” Jesus says “Come.” Peter, with great faith, steps out of the boat, eyes locked on the Savior. He took that great leap of faith in the New Testament. The artist chose a unique perspective, emphasizing a distance, agap, which is both physical and perhaps psychological/spiritual. It is the artist's personal commentary about bridging the metaphorical gap of faith.
